As my travels come to an end, I’ve had some time to reflect.
After traveling through South East Asia for a little over six months, there are certain things I have started to miss that I did not ever think I would. Here are a few:
My Electric Toothbrush Charger:
I would not say I get particularly amped about dental hygiene (sorry to all my dentists who subscribe), but since I only thought I was initially leaving for a few weeks, I did not bother bringing my charger for my electric toothbrush because I thought it would take up too much unnecessary space… But after my toothbrush sadly died about a month into traveling, I was deeply regretting that decision. The thing is, a normal toothbrush is perfectly fine. It gets the job done. But it’s knowing your toothbrush can do so much more, that it’s not living up to its full potential when it’s right in the palm of your hand, is the worst part of all.
CVS :
Man, how I miss CVS. Or, I should say, the feeling of going into a familiar pharmacy and knowing exactly what you’ll be able to buy and where to find it. I was never more homesick than when I’d go into a pharmacy looking for shaving cream but couldn’t find any so I just gave up, and then spent my walk home wistfully thinking about prancing through the aisles of a CVS back home. In Vietnam, I wanted to find hair bands so badly, and kept miming tying up my hair to show what I meant, but I was never able to find them, so I just stopped putting up my hair. Look, I survived, and apparently it’s better for your hair to not tie it up? But I would go to bed at night and dream of walking into a CVS, just to feel overwhelmed by the endless overpriced items I would never really need. I longed to hold that long, winding receipt in my hands. I needed to start having more exciting dreams.
