I’m so excited to announce I’ll be facilitating another Ecstatic Dance and Journaling event next Saturday, April 20th!
The event will begin with gentle yoga as a warm up, followed by ecstatic dance and then guided journaling & meditation. It will be held at Mora Yoga, which is a trauma informed yoga studio in Brooklyn.
This all came together when I met Anthea, the founder of Mora Yoga, last month at an ecstatic dance event (where else?). I was very excited when I found out she was also coincidentally living in Bali last year, and that she teaches trauma informed yoga. I actually can’t do yoga anymore ever since my eye surgeries- or at least, inversions aren’t good for me, which I always thought was the main part of yoga. But recently, an instructor told me I should try trauma informed yoga, and shortly after, I met Anthea who holds trauma informed yoga classes along with journaling sessions. I told her about my ecstatic dance events, and here we are!
It will be such a fun event, and my friend Gabriel Jimenez will be playing a bunch of live instruments throughout the night, including the handpan, the sexiest of all the instruments!
You can find the event description below!
Join us for an evening of dance, self-discovery and connection! This experience will begin with grounding movement and breathwork before flowing into an ecstatic dance with live DJ Maracuya (Julia). Following the dance, we’ll integrate our experience with guided meditation and reflective journaling, all set to the backdrop of live handpan, fostering an atmosphere of joy and introspection. Fruit, tea and chocolate will also be served for nourishment.
For those new to ecstatic dance, here are some gentle reminders that will enhance our collective experience:
- Enjoy silence on the dance floor with time for chatting afterwards.
- Disconnect from distractions; no phones during this experience :)
- Feel the earth beneath your feet; dance barefoot.
- Embrace a sober dance party; this is a substance free space!
- Respect personal boundaries; seek consent before engaging in dance.
What to wear and bring: Dress comfortably for movement and be sure to bring hydration (we will also provide water).
If possible please bring a journal (we will provide pens and paper as well!) *this will be a spacious dance experience with no more than 30 people* Join us as we dance, breathe, and journal our way to deeper connections and personal insights!
